SMALL EDITION PRINTMAKING
with Jane Ploughman and Susan Smereka Thursdays June 6 - June 27 6 pm to 9 pm $280 In this 4 week workshop you will learn printmaking techniques which will include linocuts and collographs to illustrate a poem (yours or one of your choosing.) These images will be either hand-printed or printed via an etching press. When the prints are completed they will be assembled into an innovative book structure called the Australian Reverse Piano Hinge binding. The workshop is open to all interested; printers, bookmakers and those curious to experiment with text and image. You will come away with an edition of 4 books measuring approximately 6 x 4". All supplies are included. MOKUHANGA PRINTMAKING WITH SUMI INK
February 9 -11, 2024 Friday - via Zoom, 7 - 8 pm Sat. & Sun. - in-person 10 am - 4 pm FULL This class is an introduction to mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock printing) using sumi ink for printing. Originating in China, then refined in the Edo Period in Japan, mokuhanga is experiencing a revival internationally as a nature based art form. Trained in Japan, Patty Hudak will guide participants in the immersive techniques of carving and printing, using handmade brushes, Japanese paper, starch glue, sumi, and a handheld baren to carve and print an edition of sumi prints. We will cover the history and importance of sumi ink in Asia, and its potential as a medium for printmakers. Supplies included. UNDERSTANDING COLOR
