MONO PRINT WORKSHOP AT TRPS
Saturday and Sunday, December 9 – 10, 2017, 10am – 4pm $255 plus $20 materials fee In this monoprint workshop participants will use three plates to create one print. Combining chine collé, collagraph or drypoint techniques Susan will show you how to orchestrate ways to print to get the best results. Artists will create their own template to register plates and be shown ways to experiment with the inks. You are encouraged to bring your imagery, ideas, and concepts that you are currently working on with an interest in how to develop and shift them through the media. Carpenter-Carse Library, Hingsburg, VT
This two-day workshop with artist Susan Smereka provides an opportunity to create a beautiful hand crafted journal. The process begins with disassembling an old hardcover book while learning the intricacies of how books are put together. Then you will rebuild the signatures with pages of the original book, pages from other books and blank journal pages. With waxed linen thread you will be guided through a step by step process of binding your new journal together. No experience necessary. This journal makes a great gift- just in time for the holidays! Space is limited. Please contact the library to register by emailing Jill at adultprogramming.ccl@gmail.com or by calling 802-482-2878. A $15 materials fee is required. In March I started working on a small book shop at New City Galerie, the place where I help curate and install exhibits. Sadie Williams from Seven Days wrote up a great piece about the book shop. You can read it here; Seven Days Blog Post. The process has been fun - building the shelf (Thanks Heinz for your help) and then reaching out to everyone I could think of that makes books. I am still collecting and acquiring new books - so if you have any or know of any that primarily image base and $35 or under let me know.
These art books make great gifts; art, supporting artists and giving something to think about without words; a good exercise for the brain! At this point, you'd have to come in to see the books, but I will eventually get them digitized. In the meantime if you want a book and can't make it into the shop - we can talk/email and I can help you find the right book! I hope you can join me at the 6th annual Art+Soul to raise money for USCRI Vermont Refugee Resettlement Project. Art and Soul brings together artists, musicians, nonprofits, and businesses to celebrate & support the good work & creative spirit at the heart of our local community. This year's event takes place June 8, 2016, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. The show runs through to July 7, 2017.
A big thank you to Ashley Jimenez who organized and curated this fabulous show at the law offices of Dunkiel and Saunders. I am glad to be participating in this small way to an important cause. November 19, 2016
