Pond Brook Studios - Kevin Donegan and Susan SmerekaOCTOBER 5 and 6th
10 am to 5 pm Please join us for Open Studio Weekend at "Pond Brook Studios" 742 Pond Brook Road, Hinesburg, VT, 05461 [From Hinesburg village, turn onto Mechanicsville Rd, heading straight onto Pond Brook Rd, go 0.7 miles, and we are on the right.] Kevin's sculptural works include stone carving, sculptural paintings made from fabric and latex paint and found object assemblage. And I have books, monotypes, drawings and assemblage drawings made with various small found objects. I will be teaching these two class this fall at Burlington City Arts.
There has been some confusion around monotype and monoprint, myself included in that confusion! I am teaching monotype printing this fall (although on the BCA website it is called monoprint.) Monotype is a unique print and monoprint is a unique print of etching , dry point or collograph where there is an image that is the same on each. Saturday and Sunday, December 9 – 10, 2017, 10am – 4pm $255 plus $20 materials fee In this monoprint workshop participants will use three plates to create one print. Combining chine collé, collagraph or drypoint techniques Susan will show you how to orchestrate ways to print to get the best results. Artists will create their own template to register plates and be shown ways to experiment with the inks. You are encouraged to bring your imagery, ideas, and concepts that you are currently working on with an interest in how to develop and shift them through the media. Carpenter-Carse Library, Hingsburg, VT
This two-day workshop with artist Susan Smereka provides an opportunity to create a beautiful hand crafted journal. The process begins with disassembling an old hardcover book while learning the intricacies of how books are put together. Then you will rebuild the signatures with pages of the original book, pages from other books and blank journal pages. With waxed linen thread you will be guided through a step by step process of binding your new journal together. No experience necessary. This journal makes a great gift- just in time for the holidays! Space is limited. Please contact the library to register by emailing Jill at adultprogramming.ccl@gmail.com or by calling 802-482-2878. A $15 materials fee is required. In March I started working on a small book shop at New City Galerie, the place where I help curate and install exhibits. Sadie Williams from Seven Days wrote up a great piece about the book shop. You can read it here; Seven Days Blog Post. The process has been fun - building the shelf (Thanks Heinz for your help) and then reaching out to everyone I could think of that makes books. I am still collecting and acquiring new books - so if you have any or know of any that primarily image base and $35 or under let me know.
These art books make great gifts; art, supporting artists and giving something to think about without words; a good exercise for the brain! At this point, you'd have to come in to see the books, but I will eventually get them digitized. In the meantime if you want a book and can't make it into the shop - we can talk/email and I can help you find the right book! |
