with Dorsey Hogg December 4 & 11 6:30 - 8:30 $100 Join book artist and art educator Dorsey Hogg in creating paper art that hangs! We will explore spheres and stars that will complement any space all year round! Each week participants will choose from different structures and a variety of colored and textured papers to create balls and stars of beauty. No experience required and all materials provided. 1 day; January 11 10 am - 4 pm OR 2 evenings: February 19 & 26 6:30 -9 pm $85 We will rebuild an old book and give it new life as a unique journal to inspire you to write and capture your precious ideas, collages and drawings. You will take apart an old book, and rebind it with blank pages interleaved with text from the original. Build your knowledge and skills around bookbinding as you learn the parts of a book and how to do a long stitch binding with waxed linen thread. Whether you are new to bookbinding or not, this workshop is appropriate for all skill levels and interests. All materials are provided. |

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ART MATERIALS with Jazz Heath October 26 & 27 10:00 - 3:30 pm $285 Join Jazz Heath in this exploratory workshop to help you maximize your studio materials, different ways to use a journal and create artwork! Using various water-based media you will learn to make color charts/swatches and layer different media. You will be working in a journal with heavy paper creating a resource and documentation of the workshop. Jazz will introduce you to new materials and show you how to unleash the joy and push the boundaries of these media. A final project will be creating artwork using your newfound ways of working with color. All supplies are included. JazzHeath holds a BA in Liberal Arts and Education from Vermont State University. with Jane Ploughman and Susan Smereka Date to be Determined $280 In this workshop you will learn printmaking techniques including linocuts and collagraphs to illustrate a poem (yours or one of your choosing.) These images will be either hand-printed or printed via an etching press. When the prints are completed they will be assembled into an innovative book structure called the Australian Reverse Piano Hinge binding. The workshop is open to all interested; printers, bookmakers, and those curious to experiment with text and images. You will come away with an edition of 4 books measuring approximately 6 x 4". All supplies are included. |
GELLI PLATE & COLLAGE BOOKMAKING
with Susan Smereka Mondays January 13 - 27 6:00 - 9:00 pm $240 Create a unique artist's book while learning/honing your bookmaking and printmaking techniques. This workshop will guide you through a three-part creative process to generate text and images. You will make Gelli plate magazine transfer and then collage in response to the prints. Your completed project will combine your edited and refined creations in a hardcover book (approximately 3.5 x 5”) with 8 spreads (30 sides) handbound with a long stitch variation. All supplies are provided. No experience needed - great for those trying to break out of a creative block, or searching for creative ways to generate image and text. CREATIVE BOOKMAKING
with Jane Ploughman and Susan Smereka To be determined in spring 2025 $325 Welcome to the exciting world of bookmaking! This class is ideal for the newbie and for those with some experience. Learn the process of paste paper, Gelli plate printing, and Japanese marbling; Suminagashi. These decorative papers will be incorporated into book structures such as single sheet, a single flag, and an accordion with a hardcover. In your final book project, you will also work on the content (words, drawings, collage, etc) for your book. Jane Ploughman, bookmaker and printmaker from New Haven, Vermont, and I, Susan Smereka will co-teach this workshop. With two instructors you are guaranteed plenty of one-on-one instruction. |
