TUNNEL BOOKS & COLLAGE
Thursdays May 2 - 23 6:30 - 9:00 pm $225 Join book artist and art educator Dorsey Hogg in adding dimension to your collage art with tunnel books. We will explore a variety of upcycled papers and supports to turn your collage into a 3-D experience. You will learn 3 different styles of tunnel books each with their own cover or housing structure. No experience necessary, just patience and a love for cutting, gluing, and folding! All materials will be provided. CREATIVE BOOKMAKING
with Jane Ploughman and Susan Smereka To Be Determined $325 Welcome to the exciting world of bookmaking! This class is ideal for the newbie and for those with some experience. Learn the process of paste paper, Gelli plate printing, and Japanese marbling; Suminagashi. These decorative papers will be incorporated into book structures such as single sheet, a single flag, and an accordion with a hardcover. In your final book project, you will also work on the content (words, drawings, collage, etc) for your book. Jane Ploughman, bookmaker and printmaker from New Haven, Vermont, and I, Susan Smereka will co-teach this workshop. With two instructors you are guaranteed plenty of one-on-one instruction. |
GELLI PLATE & COLLAGE BOOKMAKING
with Jane Ploughman and Susan Smereka To Be Determined $220 Create a unique artist's book while learning new bookmaking and printmaking techniques. This workshop will guide you through a three-part creative process to generate text and images. You will make Gelli plate magazine transfer and then collage in response to the prints. Your completed project will combine your edited and refined creations in a hardcover book (approximately 3.5 x 5”) with 8 spreads (30 sides) handbound with a long stitch variation. All supplies are provided. No experience needed - great for those trying to break out of a creative block, or searching for creative ways to generate image and text. BUTTONHOLE BINDING
with Jane Ploughman A. May 15, 2 - 5 pm B. May 15, 5:30 - 8:30 pm $85 Learn how to sew this simple and fun book structure. The decorative buttonhole stitch is suitable for journals, sketchbooks, and artist books. You will learn basic bookbinding techniques and terms. Participants will leave with two unique handmade notebooks and instructions to create more at home. All materials are provided. |
SMALL EDITION PRINTMAKING
with Jane Ploughman and Susan Smereka Thursdays June 6 - June 27 6 pm to 9 pm $280 In this 4 week workshop you will learn printmaking techniques which will include linocuts and collographs to illustrate a poem (yours or one of your choosing.) These images will be either hand-printed or printed via an etching press. When the prints are completed they will be assembled into an innovative book structure called the Australian Reverse Piano Hinge binding. The workshop is open to all interested; printers, bookmakers and those curious to experiment with text and image. You will come away with an edition of 4 books measuring approximately 6 x 4". All supplies are included. SUMINAGASHI MARBLING
with Jane Ploughman To Be Determined $85 Learn the fine art of Japanese marbling called Suminagashi. You will have plenty of time to practice and refine the art in this workshop. It is a versatile decorative paper that can be used for your bookmaking projects, collaging, stationary, and/or handmade cards. A set amount of paper is allotted, there is more paper to purchase or you can bring your own. |
