In March I started working on a small book shop at New City Galerie, the place where I help curate and install exhibits. Sadie Williams from Seven Days wrote up a great piece about the book shop. You can read it here; Seven Days Blog Post. The process has been fun - building the shelf (Thanks Heinz for your help) and then reaching out to everyone I could think of that makes books. I am still collecting and acquiring new books - so if you have any or know of any that primarily image base and $35 or under let me know.
These art books make great gifts; art, supporting artists and giving something to think about without words; a good exercise for the brain! At this point, you'd have to come in to see the books, but I will eventually get them digitized. In the meantime if you want a book and can't make it into the shop - we can talk/email and I can help you find the right book!

10:30am - 4 pm New City Galerie This workshop with Susan Smereka provides an opportunity to create a beautiful hand crafted journal. The process begins with disassembling an old hardcover book while learning the intricacies of how books are put together. Then you will rebuild the signatures with pages of the original book, pages from other books and blank journal pages. With waxed linen thread you will be guided through a step by step process of binding your new journal together. No experience necessary. This journal makes a great gift and the workshop itself is a gift. All supplies provided. You can bring your own ruler, bone folder, scissors, utility knife, self-healing cutting mat, awl, and pencil. $40 This Exhibition is the culmination of my residency at New City Galerie. BookBody is showing work that relates book forms and the human body. Artists and authors explore the intimate relationship [developed] between the human body and the physical book. How [have] DO the tactile characteristics of the book impacted how the/a body reads? How does the body make books? What occurs in between this give and take? What is the nature of this symbiosis? The jury: Ben Aleshire, Glynnis Fawkes and Susan Smereka.
